Organizational Description:Currently, CEURE operates the Literacy, Arts and Exercise program at International School #45 on the West Side. The program serves approximately 280 students in grades 1 – 8. It is a collaboration involving CEURE, other programs at Buffalo State, the Buffalo Public Schools, and community organizations committed to promoting academic success and positive youth development. CEURE is looking to recruit approximately 25-30 Buffalo State students from a variety of disciplines, who are either education majors or have a focus/interest in working with youth in the community. Buffalo State students work as paid tutors alongside classroom teachers with groups of 15 students, providing enrichment/recreation, project-based learning, homework support, and intensive literacy tutoring. All tutors will receive training ranging from building positive relationships and classroom management to cultural awareness and working with English Learners. Academic tutors will receive additional training that includes implementing diagnostic and direct instruction models, and the Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Model for ELLs as part of the Intensive Literacy Tutoring Initiative.Students will receive between $10 and $12 per hour, are required to have at least sophomore standing and be available between the hours of 2:00pm – 5:00pm a minimum of three days per week (preferably MWF or TThF). Personal transportation is not required as the school is a short bus ride from campus.

Head Start/Early Head Start program administers the CAO Head Start Program which serves eight hundred ninety-seven (897) preschool children and two hundred and five (205) pregnant moms, infants, and toddlers. The program serves children at fourteen (14) centers located throughout the cities of Buffalo, Lackawanna, Cheektowaga, Springville, Getzville, Derby, Gowanda and Blasdell.In addition to the fourteen (14) locations directly operated by the CAO, the Community Action Organization also delegates two programs to Bethel Head Start and Holy Cross Head Start Programs, which together serves nine hundred ninety three (993) children in Buffalo, Amherst, the City of Tonawanda, Town of Tonawanda, Cheektowaga, Depew/Lancaster and Akron, New York. The CAO Head Start/Early Head Start program Provides infant/toddler and preschool services in one hundred thirty (130) learning environments and classrooms at administrative offices and centers located at over twenty nine (29) academies. The programs offer a variety of options from half day sessions, four days per week and full day sessions five days per week, full year and extended day sessions. The Early Head Start Program services are offered through center and home based options. Collaboration is a major key to the Early Childhood Department's continued success.
